The Technologies Series

The Empowering Communities Program Technologies Series is designed to provide products enhancing the information systems of non-profit organizations. Through enhanced information systems supporting the organization it can better work together with its constituents to share our hopes and live our dreams.

  • The Industry Series: Within the series is Animal Shelter Manager which is a complete computer solution for animal sanctuaries and shelters. It features complete animal management, document generation, reporting, charts, internet publishing, pet search engine integration and a web interface.

  • The Office Productivity Series: Within the series is TimeTracker, a Java-based time tracking tool which can be used to track efficiency during fundraising activities. It allows the user to categorize tasks, provide descriptions and record the duration of the activities undertaken. Another technology is Documania which is a document management system for managing scanned-in documents. It facilitates the easy retrieval of forms used by your organization and adhering to any laws which require documents be kept for a certain period of time. Also within the series is OpenOffice, an office productivity suite similar to Microsoft Office. It includes a word processor (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), web page editor (Microsoft FrontPage) and presentation program (Microsoft PowerPoint). Documents are saved in open standard XML files and also includes the provision of saving in a wide range of office including Microsoft Office format.

  • The Donor Relations Series: One of our primary technologies is eBase is a well-featured 'Community Relationship Management' tool. It includes contact, donation, membership and volunteer/activist management functions. In addition eBase also includes data entry/import, email, reporting/search features. Another technology within the Series is the Donor Database Tool designed to be used with Microsoft Access, this database system includes the ability to record contributions made to the organization and generate reports based on the information recorded.

  • The Electronic Publishing Series: Within the Series is PDFCreator is an application allows the generation of Portable Document Format (PDF) files from any Windows application. The advantage of saving in PDF format is that the reader cannot easily make changes which ensures the document will look as intended on all platforms. This would especially be useful for standardized forms or manuals used within non-profit organizations ensuring that electronic copies distributed cannot be modified. Another tool, Gimp, is a comprehensive imaging solution suitable for non-profit organizations who wish to manipulate digital photographs, design and export graphics for websites, covert file formats and produce high-resolution prints suitable for print. Another application, Thunderbird, is a modern email client with a variety of features including spam filters using artificial intelligence, built in spell checker and a range of customizable layouts. Its efficient operation is ideal for older computers which may not cope with commercially available software while still maintaining the valuable features software such as Microsoft Outlook provides. Also included is Mozilla - a full-featured browser, mail and new suite. One of its features is a webpage authoring function which can be used to design simple websites for non-profit organizations. Additionally, Filezilla is offered which is a client program which allows the uploading and downloading of files from web servers. This is an essential tool for any non-profit organization which has a website.

  • The Special Use Series: Within the Series is TightVNC which facilitates Virtual Network Computing. This allows a user to gain full access another computer located anywhere around the world with a Java-enabled browser. Such software would allow, for example, a technical support representative located at the organization's headquarters to solve a technical issue for a volunteer located in another country. Thus, saving time and of course the costs associated with inefficiencies. Windows Privacy Tools is a collection of applications to assist in the digital encryption and signing of documents. Such tools can be used to secure sensitive donor information files or to ensure secure transmission of data between regional offices of non-profit organizations. WinHTTrack Website Copier allows the saving of entire websites to a local computer directory. Thus, a computer can access the saved website without having internet access. This software could be useful for a fundraising event where information from the organization's website may be needed to answer donor questions but internet access is not available at the location.
